Winter League Information - 2013 Season Summary

The Winter League Banquet was held on Monday, December 9th at 6:00 PM at The Ironwood Cafe.

DATE START TIME NOTES
Monday, December 9 2:30 PM The official sunset time is 4:57 PM. We'll stick with a 2:30 PM start time. Remember that if we play, the banquet begins at 6:00 PM.

Monday, December 2 2:30 PM There were 6 golfers and 10 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. The group played at Bob-O-Link (Gold Course) and Jim Sweeney won the closest to the pin prize on #5. There were four skins . . . two for Dan O'Grady and one each for Glen Peterson and Jim Sweeney. As is normally the case, all winners kicked back some cash to the kitty (kick backs are OK in the Winter League). Our investment club made one final profitable investment to fortify the kitty with a little extra "scratch" before the banquet!

Monday, November 25 2:30 PM Three tough winter league dudes played at Bob-O-Link . . . Dave Martens, Glen Peterson and John Sullivan. They had a great time and said it was actually warmer than the previous week (no wind). I think we had 9 guys at The Ironwood Cafe and the investment club made a profitable choice!

Monday, November 18 2:30 PM There were 8 golfers and 9 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. We played at Bob-O-Link (Red Course) and Glen Peterson won the closest to the pin on #4. There were six skins . . . two for Andy Trutza and one each for Dave Michael, Glen Peterson, Jim Sweeney and Dave Martens. All winners kicked back to the kitty in generous fashion. A troubled investment club, lacking confidence, had an unusual vote which resulted in a poor investment choice. At the 11th hour (8:40 PM to be exact), the president withheld funds from the investment broker (at his own risk and peril), thus saving the club from a loss and also eliminating the transactional brokerage fees!

November 18, 2013. It was 40 degrees and we had 40 MPH winds for our winter league matches. Andy Trutza, Glen Peterson and Dave Martens were in the first group to finish. Winter League guys are tough!

November 18, 2013. Dave Michael played in the first group and joined John Sullivan, Dan O'Grady, Jim Sweeney and Joe Sweeney for this picture. With those arms folded, it looks like O'Grady is rehearsing for his next "shoot" in GQ.

Monday, November 11 2:45 PM There were 8 golfers and 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. Nobody hit the green on #15 so that money rolled to the kitty. There were four skins, one each for Glen Petereson, Dave Martens, John Sullivan and Jim Sweeney. The winners were magnanimous in their generosity and we had a good time. A landslide vote of our investment club produced negative cash flow on that side of the balance sheet. (What, we have a balance sheet?)

Monday, November 4 2:45 PM There were 6 golfers and 8 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. Jim Sweeney won the closest to the pin on #5 and had a great score of 38, as did Jim Scott (NOTE: Jim Scott's 38 was every bit as good as Jim Sweeney's 38). Skin calculations were delayed for the week and the investment club was saved from a bad decision by an administrative error. Skins have been determined: There were five skins . . . three for Jim Scott and one each for the Sweeney brothers, Jim and Joe. The generosity of our winners brought tears to my eye!

Monday, October 28 3:45 PM We had 13 golfers and both the weather and the course were great. There were three skins, one each by Dan O'Grady, Joe Sweeney and Andy Trutza and they all kicked back handsomely to the kitty. What a group! Dan O'Grady won the closest to the pin on #15 and had a great score of 37. We had a fun time . . . eating, drinking and telling jokes. We also calculated the skins from last week (10/21) . . . there were four skins total, one each for Tom Weaver, Joe Sweeney, Dave Skok and Jim Sweeney. All of these guys kicked back too! The investment club vote was near unanimous . . . but wrong!

October 28, 2013. Andy Trutza, Jim Sweeney, Joe Sweeney and John Sullivan all look great but they are puzzled . . . Who could be taking this picture? Fivesomes are not permitted!

Monday, October 21 4:00 PM I was out of town . . . Jim Sweeney reported that we had 14 golfers. Dave Skok won the closest to the pin on #5 and he donated his entire winnings back to the kitty. Thanks Dave! It should also be noted that Dave shot a smooth two under par 34! Doc John Duda made a generous donation to the kitty in advance of his trip to do service work in Virginia. Thanks John . . . for the donation and even more for your service to the poor. The group elected to save the skins calculation for me to handle upon my return . . . I'll let you know how it works out. The investment club made another profitable decision!

Monday, October 14 4:00 PM What a day! We had 17 players which I think is a Winter League Record. There were two skins, one each by John Sullivan and Joe Sweeney. It was a big pot because of the carryover and they both gave back a nice portion to the kitty. Tom Weaver won the closest to the pin on #15. The investment club was very certain and very wrong in their decision. Oh well, you can't win 'em all! Because of overwhelming generosity, the kitty still had a net gain! What a group!

Monday, October 7 4:15 PM We had 11 golfers and 12 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. There were NO skins. The group decided to carry $30.00 forward to next week's skin game and give the rest to the kitty. Jim Sweeney won closest to the pin on #5 and was generous as usual. There was lively debate by the investment club which led to a tie vote. The tiebreaker yielded a good result.

October 7, 2013. Dan Galmarini and Dave Michael are all smiles before being taken to the cleaners by Jim "6-way" Mazzella and his partner, photographer Dan O'Grady. At least the winners offered to buy drinks for other people!

Monday, September 30 4:15 PM We had 8 golfers and 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. There were four skins, two by Dan O'Grady, one for Mike Eyerman and one for Dave Michael. Jim Mazzella won closest to the pin on #15. Everybody kicked in a portion of their prize money and folks were generous to the kitty as usual. One absent member even sent a donation by special courrier. The investment club made a wise move and for the first time also invested in "futures".

September 30, 2013. Dan O'Grady, Jim Mazzella and Mike Eyereman pose before teeing off on Number 14. High 60's and Sunny . . . it doesn't get any better! All three were prize winners!

Monday, September 23 4:30 PM We had 14 golfers and 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. There were three skins, one each by Dan O'Grady, Mike Eyerman and John Duda. Dave Michael won closest to the pin on #5 and Dan O'Grady shot a sub par round of 35! All winners were extremely generous to the kitty (especially John Duda who gave back everything) . . . Thank You! The investment club vote was fascinating, but we lost!

September 23, 2013. It was a classic Winter League day and these guys were happy to be there. Tim Coyne, Dave Martens, Jim Scott and Tom Weaver. A good time was had by all!

Monday, September 16 4:30 PM We had 10 golfers and 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. There were five skins, one each by Dan O'Grady, Tom Connelly, Mike Howell, Dave Michael and Andy Trutza. All winners were extremely generous to the kitty . . . Thank You! After a suggestion and some discussion, we adopted a new rule for our play. In the future, we will all pay $5.00 for skins (as we always have) and $1.00 for closest to the pin on either #5 or #15. If the "closest to the pin winner" does not make par or better, the money goes into our kitty. As a happy ending to a good night, the investment club made a unanimous pick for a winner on the first night of active investing!

Monday, September 9 4:00 PM I hear that St. Angela beat St. Bernadette in the match by a score of 12-4. No official report has been filed by Winter League members. The investment club remained inactive on the first night of Monday Night investing.

Prayer Request Fellow league member Dan Galmarini’s mother passed away on the day of our regular league outing. Services were private for the family. Please pray for the repose of her soul and for their entire family. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the Mercy of God, Rest in Peace, Amen!

Monday, September 2 No Winter League Golf Have a great and restful holiday!
Labor Day

Monday, August 26 4:30 PM There were 12 guys who played the back nine at Hilliard Lakes and 11 guys showed up at The Ironwood Cafe. There were six skins . . . John Sullivan shot a 37 and won three skins, Mike Eyerman had two skins and Tom Connelly had one skin. All three of these fine gentleman were generous to the kitty. It was a great start to our Winter League season!
