Winter League Information for the 2025 Season

The "winter league" is an informal group of guys that continues to play golf on Monday nights and continues to meet at the Ironwood Cafe for dinner after golf. The "winter league" continues as long as weather permits. And, we even have a league Christmas Party! There are three requirements for membership in the winter league:
  1. Do not tell your wife that the real golf league has ended! (Breaking this rule is cause for automatic expulsion.)
  2. Show up at the course at the appointed time.
  3. Be nice, play fast and have fun.

NOTE: Winter league players normally "kick in" $6.00 each week. $3.00 goes to the winter league kitty which is used for various activities. The other $3.00 goes to weekly prizes. This is a BIG MONEY league! :-) Closest to the pin on the first par 3 hole (#5 or #15) gets 50 cents per man (if you make par). Net skin winners split the rest of the "half pot". Good Luck to all!

After golf we gather at The Ironwood Cafe. 688 Dover Center Road, Westlake, Ohio. Click Here to see The Ironwood Cafe Menu and Prices.

DATE START TIME NOTES
Monday, December 1 6:00 PM Our Banquet was held at the V.I.P. on Rocky River Drive. They prepared a great meal and the service was very good. A good time was had by all. I hope that all of you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year with your families and friends! Keep your eyes out for communications about future events.

Monday, November 24 2:15 PM or sooner Five Guys played Golf at Sweetbriar Legacy. Mike Eyerman shot a smooth 39. Nice job Mike. Players and non-players gathered at the Ironwood and made a good investment to finish off the year. See you at the Banquet!

Monday, November 17 2:15 PM or sooner Nobody played golf but we had a decent size group at the Ironwood Cafe. After enjoying dinner and vigorous debate, our investment club made a wise investment.

Monday, November 10 2:30 PM or sooner There was no golf due to the weather. This was a night of remembrance for those 29 people who died on the Edmund Fitzgerald. See the story at the link below. Several Winter League golfers met at the West End Tavern for a remembrance ceremony. Winter league player John McCarthy's dad was one of the victims. Link to an article: https://share.google/H43REZCOX5AnaLuMT

NOTE: Four very smart investors who attended the ceremony voted unanimously to make a profitable investment.

Monday, November 3 2:30 PM or sooner There were 12 players (10 at Legacy and 2 at Bob-O-Link). Others joined at the Ironwood Cafe. Mike Eyerman had closest to the pin. There were two skins. One each for Dan O'Grady and Dan Martello. The investment Club tanked for the evening. Boo Hoo!

Monday, October 27 3:00 PM or sooner Wow! The weather has been holding out so far. Hope it keeps going. We had 19 golfers and three non-golfers who joined us at the Ironwood Cafe. Sam Martello won the pin shot on Number Five and his cute little brother donated his winnings back to our kitty. What a family! With so many guys playing and our fair system of full stroke net skins, there were no skins. Too bad the investment club got greedy and invested in a "foreign" company for the BEST SPORTING EVENT EVER or we would have won (at least we didn't lose)!

October 27, 2025. Rich Frindt brought his brother-in-law Mike Snyder. Possible recruit for next year?
Golf_2025A
October 27, 2025. And now ladies and gentlemen . . . on the tee . . . playing out of their own bags . . . from Northeast Ohio . . . it's Mike Presley, Jim Sweeney, Mike Eyerman and Joe Sweeney.

Monday, October 20 3:15 PM or sooner It was a very nice October day. We had 15 golfers and one non-golfer who joined us at the Ironwood Cafe. Jim Sweeney had closest to the pin on Number 15. There were two skins, one for David Michael and one for David Michael Skok. Special credit to Dave Skok for a nice round of 33. The Investment Club "kissed its sister" on another Monday night with two investment possibilties.

Monday, October 13 3:30 PM or sooner It was another great day in the neighborhood! We had 11 golfers and three non-players who joined us at the Ironwood Cafe. Nobody hit the green on #5 (tough hole)! There were four skins, two for Mike Brezina and one each for Dan Martello and Jim Sweeney. Our Investment Club decided to make two investments. The vote on each was nearly unanimous and also very wrong! Boo Hoo!

Monday, October 6 3:30 PM or sooner Once again we had great weather. There were 16 golfers and two non-players who joined us at the Ironwood Cafe. Mike Presley had closest to the pin on #15. There were two skins, one each for Mike Brezina and Greg Baraona. In a rather lopsided vote, the Investment Club picked a winner! Way to go guys. Keep it going. :-))

Monday, September 29 3:30 PM or sooner The weather was PERFECT and the course was in good shape. We had 13 golfers and two non-players who joined us at the Ironwood Cafe. John McCarthy had closest to the pin on #5. There were two skins, one each for Mike Brezina and Jim Sweeney. Our investment club picked a good night to have good instincts since there were TWO opportnities to invest! Good job men!

Monday, September 22 3:45 PM or sooner The weather looked iffy and only one guy showed up at the course. We had seven guys who came to The Ironwood for dinner. The food was great and a good time was had by all. One man spoke about his opinion for the night's investment. After his speech, the vote took place. The other six men were all on the other side (the losing side). LOL!!!

Monday, September 15 3:15 PM or sooner There was some sad news tonight. St. Angela defeated us in the annual competition. Also, it broke my heart that one foursome chose not to join us at the Ironwood. However . . . I like to look at the good news: Nine golfers on a perfect night, great food and camaraderie at The Ironwood and a smart decision by the investment club! Emeritus won closest to the pin on #15 and there were three skins, one each by Bob Marinez, Jim Sweeney and Dave Michael. Hope to see you all next week on the front nine (or at The Ironwood)!

Monday, September 8 4:30 PM or sooner It was a perfect weather night and we had 17 players. Three non-players also joined in at the Ironwood Cafe. Bob Marinez had Closest to the Pin on Number 5 and there were three skins, one each for Dan O'Grady, Mike Eyerman and John Fox. We didn't get the back room so we split up into two groups. Our Investment Club started off the year on a winning note!!!

Monday, September 1 (Labor Day) No Winter League Golf Have a fun, happy and restful holiday!

Monday, August 25 4:30 PM On the first night of Winter League Golf we had 15 guys show up to play and one non-player joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. Dave Skok had closest to the pin on Number 15. There were five skins. Mike Brezina won three skins and Dan Martello and Mike Howell each had one. We had a great time at The Ironwood Cafe. Remember, there is no Winter League golf on Labor day. Next play is on Monday, September 8th.
