After golf we gather at The Ironwood Cafe. 688 Dover Center Road, Westlake, Ohio. Click Here to see The Ironwood Cafe Menu and Prices.
DATE START TIME NOTES Monday, December 8 2:30 PM Dave Martens and Jim Sweeney played nine holes (that's what it's all about) and then joined 21 other Winter League members for our banquet at The Ironwood Cafe. We had a great meal and lot's of good conversation. Our banquet was entirely paid for because of the generosity of our members and the wisdom of our investment club. Monday, December 1 2:30 PM There was no golf but the guys met at The Ironwood Cafe and had a good time. The investment club made two investments . . . one positive and one negative. Overall, the investment club did a great job this season! Monday, November 24 2:30 PM Although the temperature was suitable, Hilliard Lakes closed for the season and Bob-O-Links was closed because the course was too wet. We had 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe and a good time was had by all. The investment club made two investments and split . . . lost our brokerage fee. :-)) Monday, November 17 2:30 PM Wow . . . things changed quickly! There were 11 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. Nassim Lynch had the closest to the pin and Dave Michael had all 9 skins. Glen Peterson had the all time low gross score for Winter League players. All diners were generous to the kitty and the investment club had an intense debate followed by a very close (but correct) vote! Monday, November 10 2:30 PM It was a beautiful weather night. There were 12 golfers and 14 guys at The Ironwood Cafe (but we had 16 votes on the investment - go figure). Dan Galmarini had closest to the pin on #15. There were three skins, one each by Glen Peterson, Jim Scott and Andy Trutza. Jeff Burke and Galmo tied for low gross with a pair of 40's. All winners were generous to the kitty and the investment club continued to invest wisely! Monday, November 3 2:45 PM After a lousy weekend of bad weather, we had a great night for golf. There were 13 golfers and 16 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. Nassim O'Lynch had closest to the pin on #15 and he also had a skin on #14. Jim Scott earned the second skin of the night on #13. The low gross score was a 37 shot by Dan O'Grady (8 pars and a bogey). The winners were generous to the kitty and the investment club got "Off the Schneid"! The investment club also decided to make a mid-week investment in a favorite local "stock"! Monday, October 27 3:45 PM It was a near perfect night and the course was crowded. Our group had 17 golfers. We had to split up between the front and back. There were three skins on the back, one each by Jim Mazzella, Dave Martens and Jim Sweeney. There were two skins on the front, one each by Tom Weaver and Jim Davis (Jim was 5 inches away from a hole-in-one on #9). Jim also had closest to the pin on #5 with a great shot. Low gross score was shot by Dan Galmarini who had a smooth round of 37! All winners were extremely generous to the kitty. The investment club voted 13-6 in favor of a BAD investment. We're still ahead of the game, but could use a few nice wins! ![]()
October 27, 2014. As the season winds down, you have to enjoy beautiful nights like this. It was perfect weather and course conditions for the last round during "Daylight Savings Time". Mike Eyerman, Jim Butts, Joe Sweeney, Glen Peterson and Nassim Lynch were playing #3. Jim Connelly ran over to get in the picture.Monday, October 20 4:00 PM Report filed by Dave Martens in my absence: There was only 1 skin by John Sullivan !!!! And to top it off he was also closest to the pin and I think he picked the (correct investment choice)! It must have been his lucky day. He was also generous to the kitty. Despite rain and drizzle, 17 golfers came out to play. We had 13 members adjourn to the Ironwood where a very tight vote went with the (correct investment choice), although we had numerous calls to members who were not there in order to change the decision. We're on a roll. Monday, October 13 4:00 PM The Winter League is on a roll! We had 17 golfers and 22 guys at The Ironwood Cafe . . . We had great weather once again. John McCarthy had closest to the pin on #15 and he gave back a good portion of his prize to the kitty. There were three skins for three generous players, one each by Glen Peterson, Tom Connelly and Jeff Burke. Many people voted before the investment club discussions took place. Once again, our Summer League President was 100% correct with his predicition . . . that the majority of our group would disagree with him! Investment Club wins again! Monday, October 6 4:15 PM Another fantastic turnout. We had 16 golfers and 17 guys at The Ironwood Cafe . . . It was a great night and we had a lot of fun and laughter at the restaurant. Once again, there was no prize for closest to the pin so that money went to the kitty. There was one skin . . . A net 2 on #4 by Tom Connelly. As usual, Tom was very generous to the kitty. The investment club discussion was lively and the vote was close . . . and CORRECT! Monday, September 29 4:15 PM We had 16 golfers and 15 guys at The Ironwood Cafe . . . It was a beautiful night. There was no prize for closest to the pin because "somebody" didn't make their par! There was one skin . . . net eagle on #10 by Jeff Burke who made a generous donation to our kitty. Thanks Jeff! The primary speaker at our investment club meeting did not have his teleprompter available so he wasn't very convincing . . . the club went down like a lead balloon. ![]()

Special thanks to Dave Martens and others for filling in and handling the money in my absence. And by the way, the investment club picked a winner! Monday, September 15 4:30 PM We had 16 golfers and 14 guys at The Ironwood Cafe. There were two skins, one each by Jim Sweeney and Andy Trutza. Both winners were extremely generous in kicking back to our kitty. Good thing too, because the investment club made a bad decision. Mike Hudek was a guest and he won closest to the pin on #15. He also threw his winnings back into the pot. ![]()
