Winter League Information - 2023 Season Summary
The Winter League Christmas Party was held at 6:00 PM at the Rocky River Brewing Company on Tuesday, December 5th. Good food, huge shrimp and Uncle Glen's "Holiday Glogg"! And the best thing about the party was the return of our beloved Emeritus!
We had a great meal and a great time!
DATE START TIME NOTES
Monday, November 27 2:00 PM Sunset is at 5:00 PM. I will call a couple courses on Monday morning to get some details. See you at the Ironwood after golf at about 5:00 PM. Monday, November 20 2:00 PM We had six golfers (three at the Big Met and three at "The Bob"). There were three non-golfers. We all kicked into the kitty and did NOT award prizes. The Investment Club had interesting discussions, made unusual choices and earned more money than we have all year! Monday, November 13 2:00 PM We had 9 golfers at two different courses and two non-golfers who joined together at the Ironwood Cafe. Seven (7) golfers played at the Legacy course. Dale Bielek had Closest to the Pin on #4. There were 4 skins: One each for Dale Bielek, Dan Galmarini, Mike Brezina and Dan O'Grady. Congratulations! Our investment club was strongly in favor of the incorrect choice. Boo!!! Monday, November 6 2:00 PM We had 10 golfers (more on that later), a guest and three non-golfers. 6 golfers played Legacy Front, One golfer and our guest played Legacy Back. Three golfers played at The Big Met. Nobody hit the green on on Number 4. There were 6 skins. Two for Dan O'Grady, two for Dave Skok and one each for Mike Eyerman and Mike Brezina. Our investment club made a good decision with help (again) from Emeritus who made the tie breaking vote! Monday, October 30 3:00 PM There was no golf due to bad weather and course closure. We had six guys show up at The Ironwood Cafe for dinner. There was a unanimous vote for our investment. We called Emeritus for his opinion and received his blessing to proceed. Victory again! We found out earlier in the day that Hilliard Lakes is closed for the season. We need to agree on a new course to call home for the remainder of the Winter League season. Monday, October 23 3:15 PM There were 13 golfers and two non-golfers who joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. The golfers played at Hilliard Lakes. Dave Skok had "closest to the pin" on Number 5. There were three skins, one each for John Russo, Rich Frindt and Dan O'Grady. A good time was had by all, but the investment club made a bad choice! Monday, October 16 3:30 PM There were 6 golfers on a somewhat chilly night with a little precipitaion. Four non-golfers joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. Hilliard Lakes was closed again so golfers played at the Legacy Course at Sweetbriar Golf Club in Avon Lake. The guys played different nines so no prize was awarded for "closest to the pin" (although Joe Sweeney and Dan O'Grady would have been winners). There were three skins, all by new Winter League devotee Dale Bielek! The investment club was deadlocked in a tie. We called Emeritus Jim Sweeney who made a decisive call and led us to victory with his vote! Monday, October 9 3:30 PM There were 7 golfers on a mild weather night and two non-golfers joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. Hilliard Lakes was closed so golfers played at the Legacy Course at Sweetbriar Golf Club in Avon Lake. Mike Brezina had closest to the pin on Number 4 (and made his birdie). There were three skins, two for Andy Trutza and one for Joe Sweeney. The investment club was almost unanimous in their selection. We made two winning investments! Monday, October 2 3:30 PM There were 15 golfers on a perfect weather night and two non-golfers joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. John McCarthy had closest to the pin on Number 5. Dave Skok shot a 2 under par 34 and had a skin with an eagle on Number 1. (This was Dave's FIRST Winter League Skin!) Tim Coyne and Greg Baraona had skins on Number 7 and Number 9 respectively. We made a bad investment. I'm putting Andy in charge of the Investment Club to get us back to our former winning ways. Monday, September 25 3:30 PM There were 13 golfers on another beautiful night and one non-golfer joined us at The Ironwood Cafe. Mike Brezina had closest to the pin on Number 15. Mike also had a skin on Number 16 and Todd McManamon had a skin on Number 11. Dan O'Grady had an even par round of 36. Nice shooting guys. We made two investments, one WIN and one TIE. Not bad! Monday, September 18 4:00 PM There were 15 golfers on a beautiful night. Greg Baraona had closest to the pin on Number 5. There were three skins, One each for Greg Baraona, Brian Cook and Joe Sweeney. Two non-golfers joined at the Ironwood but the Brownies let us down on our investment! NOTE: The match between St. Angela and St. Bernadette on September 11th ended as a tie (8-8). St. Bernadette retains the cup! Congratulations to us!
ANOTHER NOTE: I received a report on regular Winter League Play from September 11th. There were also 15 golfers on September 11th. There were three skins, two for Jim Butts and one for John McCarthy. Congrats!

Monday, September 4 No Winter League Golf Have a fun, happy and restful holiday! Monday, August 28 4:30 PM We had 14 golfers play on a beautifull night. Dave Skok had low gross with a 34. Greg Baraona had low net with a 32. Nobody hit the green on #5 (unbelievable)! There were three skins, two for Mike Eyerman and one for Dave Michael. Good luck to everyone for a great season.
